On behalf of our family of faith here at Sacred Heart Church, I welcome you to our new website. Our historic church is located on Peachtree St., in the heart of downtown Atlanta. Our church is considered one of the most beautiful in the southeastern U.S., and we have the distinction of being the only church in Atlanta with two spires. Ours is a warm, friendly and diverse congregation, offering a great variety of ministries and outreach services to our growing number of individuals and families. In recent years our parish family has nearly doubled (from 600 to 1200 registered households). We come from all parts of the metropolitan area, including members from different socio-economic levels, racial and ethnic groups, and lifestyles. Our schedule of Masses and opportunities for confession are set up to accommodate not only our parishioners, but also guests from nearby hotels and others who work in the downtown area.
This coming year we are celebrating the 130th anniversary of our founding. Many of the original Catholic families of Atlanta worshipped here a century ago, but we’ve lost none of our beauty, our energy, and our love for Christ and the mission of the Church in this 21st century.
I hope you’ll take some time to explore this website. It tells of a wonderful people who are proud of their Catholic faith. It tells of opportunities to deepen our knowledge of God and minister to his people. It tells of frequent occasions to pray and worship together. We hope you’ll accept our invitation to join us and blend your own God-given gifts with the rest of us.
May God bless you! Fr. T.J. Meehan, Pastor
